Low Cost Housing Market Initiative for Calgary, Alberta Region
This proposal for a Market Structure for low cost housing is meant to include everyone now concerned with this work. It is proposed to cohesively promote and coordinate activities within a free market system which rewards all the participants, while benefitting people who require housing within their means, and which supports economic success of the people and the projects.
Did you know that we have all the ingredients to provide housing locally for all the people affordably except one?
What more do we need? Do we know who all the players are? Do we have a means of organizing the expertise to work on this problem? Do we have an information system in place which channels funding, expertise and building technology? Do we have a system which rewards participants in working on this project: that is a low cost housing market initiative? Do we have a structure for this project: A Market Place for Low Cost Housing?
What we do have: We have community organizations and develpment funding available or becoming available. We have a barter community set up in Calgary. We have suitable expertise in planning and design in many quarters - at the City, privately. We have technology and expertise in building with renewable resources at low cost, with low operating expenses for low cost housing. We have community development expertise to focus projects. We have consultants with land development experience in setting up communities.
The Missing Piece: Proposed Business Structure for Low Cost Housing
We need an information system, a market structure to assist the many players who have the ability and mandate to participate in this particular endeavor.
This information system would provide a special market for funding agencies to arrange their participation within the market place for these types of projects.
This information system would provide a unique means of making services available to successfully develop projects, including but not limited to planning, design, project management, building technology such as energy efficient design and materials, use of local labour, and so on.
